That's my friend and co-worker above. We'll be attending the next meeting of the New York Mac Meetup group. It would be nice to have other like souls attending -- especially people of color.

October New York Mac Meetup - Wednesday the 11th
Tekserve is pleased to host the Mac Meet Up group featuring Lars Hoel who will give a brief presentation covering the past present and potential of Mac technology. Lars will show some vintage Mac commercials, talk about some of the favorite Mac models (and a few of the fiascos), and review some of the new product announcements. Come and camp out with the Mac Meetup group and reminisce on some of the classic, infamous, and notorious Macintosh models including the Lisa, the 16" portable Mac, the clones and the candy Macs. Find out about the new and exciting offerings from Apple including the new colored iPod Nanos with more storage space, what's on the horizon for 'iTV', the improvements made to the latest release of iTunes (version 7 is now available for free download) and get a glimpse of Leopard. The Mac Meetup group will be on hand to keep the conversation going and talk about what all these new developments mean for Mac aficionados.
We will be raffling off a brand new iPod shuffle. This is the one that was announced on September 12th. Come to the Meetup and you have a chance to win it!
Please also register for the event with Tekserve at their website.
Looking forward to seeing all of you on October 11th!
This event is free! However, please RSVP as space is limited.

Newsweek Q&A: Jobs on iPods Cultural ImpactOther companies had already tried to make a hard disk drive music player. Why did Apple get it right?
We had the hardware expertise, the industrial design expertise and the software expertise, including iTunes. One of the biggest insights we have was that we decided not to try to manage your music library on the iPod, but to manage it in iTunes. Other companies tried to do everything on the device itself and made it so complicated that it was useless.

UNEASYsilence » Happy Birthday iPod: Full Video of Your LaunchFive years ago today, Apple unleashed to the world the iPod. At its launch it was much maligned, but as history has shown this is arguably Apples [most] successful product.
I remember the launch of the iPod (well, actually, the announcement. The iPod wouldn't appear until mid-November). I thought Jobs had lost his mind. Of course, buying a minidisc recorder two weeks prior probably had something to do with it. Well once I got to read reviews of the iPod's ease of use, about the quick song uploads, and great sound, I knew I made a mistake. The minidisc recorded in real time, was buggy, and the sound wasn't that great (especially if you recorded in long-play format). It took me three years to finally get my first iPod. And I'm in the market for my second after nearly two years of mostly carefree music listening.

Lambda Legal:The New Jersey Supreme Court is expected to issue an opinion in Lambda Legal's case seeking marriage for same-sex couples in New Jersey tomorrow [Wednesday, October 25th] afternoon.
The group will hold a 5:00pm press conference following the historic ruling. The ruling itself is expected shortly after 3:00pm. Some are pessimistic, theorizing a ruling before national elections bodes poorly for Lesbians and Gays seeking equality. I'll hope for the best and will simply wait for the decision.
