Adarro Minton @ P.O.C.C. Sept. 11th

Adarro Minton, Author of Gay, Black, Crippled, Fat!, to Appear at P.O.C.C. 468 Bergen St, Bklyn, Mon. Sept. 11.

Adarro Minton, the author of Gay, Black, Crippled, Fat! is slowly becoming quadriplegic. He currently has extremely limited use of his arms and legs. He finished this collection of stories while recovering from his third, wicked, nearly terminal bout of pneumonia.

He lost the use of his arms and legs almost six years ago to a so-far undiagnosed form of myositis. He is not all Sound of Music about his situation, nor is he maudlin. Last year, halfway through the fall semester, Adarro was taken ill and told by his doctors to stay in bed. Having promised to comply, Adarro convinced all of the members of his writing workshop and the tenured professor to hold the rest of the semester's classes in his bedroom. His determination and simple courage are an inspiration to many.

Mr. Minton has studied under authors Joe Cardilo, Guggenheim winner Lynne Tillman and MacArthur Award winner Lydia Davis. He has been published in Other:______, Flashquake, Poetic Voices, Threads, and The Culture Star Reader magazines, and was a top-ten finalist in the Writer's Digest 71st Annual Short Story Contest. He has studied at the prestigious New York State Writers Institute, and has been nominated for a 2006 Pushcart Prize.

Adarro and his team are currently touring the east coast, and anticipate stops in Philly, D.C., Baltimore, and Atlanta; and is open to other stops, says he, "I certainly hope the Brothers & Sisters hear about the book and ask me to join them in their local bookstores, community centers, and book clubs." He asks that when you know he's coming, "do fry chicken."

He will be appearing at P.O.C.C. 468 Bergen Street in Brooklyn on Monday September 11th from 6:45 - 9 p.m. for more info call Ted Beck @ 718-230-0770. *(This event has been moved from Adam's Book Store)

You can reach Adarro's representatives @ www.gayblackcrippledfat.com or 518-253-3756 or publicity@culturestarreader.com

Does The iPod FINALLY Have A Credible Threat?

Wired News: Finally, a Sirius IPod Threat

...[The] Sirius Stiletto 100 is a $350 portable satellite receiver/MP3 player that, among other things, connects via Wi-Fi to the internet so you can listen to Sirius stations without using Sirius's satellites...

I still think it will require an online music store similar to the iTunes Music Store (when will Apple finally get it right and rechristen it the iTunes Media Store?!). I'm still not enamored of radio, satellite or otherwise.

Kevin So: Looking Forward To A Brighter Day Tour 2006

Dear Family, Friends, and Fans alike !

Finally! A chance to keep you updated on what's going on. Pay no attention right now to my current website because I haven't had the chance to update it as of late. For now, please check out my MYSPACE page for a complete schedule of upcoming gigs with lots of music and info if you're interested in attending a show.

Now onto more important stuff... THE UPCOMING CD "A BRIGHTER DAY" !!! ...

[ I'm going to try to catch him on Sept. 11th: 9/11 5 Year Tribute in Union Square, New York, NY @ 2pm ]

The upcoming CD is currently being mixed and almost complete. Been working extremely hard over the past 10 months in trying to steer this baby home. Right now, it looks like the OFFICIAL release will be SPRING 2007. But I do plan to release LIMITED copies of the new CD at live shows - around Thanksgiving time - which would be NOVEMBER 18 (NEW MOON COFFEEHOUSE) and onto DECEMBER 2 in NYC at MAKOR.

I want to make sure this CD truly rocks, with groovy pictures, artwork, and hopefully a music video or two to go along with it.

Being an independent artist is hard work as many of you know. So all of this takes a lot of time. I'm hoping to get this music on iTUNES and many other digital distributors before the new year so you can at least hear and download the music online if you're not able to make it to a concert.

I'm proud to welcome on board (no pun intended) Mr. YULI CHEN - whom I have asked to officially mix my CD. You can check him out here:

For a young man of 22, he has accomplished so many things and I'm very excited to have been working with him over the past few weeks.

The CD's tracks are as follows:

NEW YORK CITY
A BRIGHTER DAY
DANGEROUS MAN
ONCE CALLED GLORY
GOOD TIME TO SAY GOODBYE
THE SYSTEM
LOVE SUITE #239
THE NEW SENSATION
KAROLINE
COME SUNDAY MORNING
LIKE FAMILY

I've got lots of people making cameo appearances on the CD, too - ERIC SCHWARTZ, HEATHER PARK, VUDOO SOUL, TAIYO, FRANK CARTER, JOHANNA, ANITA CHEUNG, DAVID KOLKER, NOAH MALTSBERGER, and a few more who have been so kind as to share their musical gifts. This is truly a NEW YORK CITY album - all folks who are currently living in NYC or have spent a good amount of time here. It's exactly the vision I was going for when I began working on this album back in late spring of 2003 - soon after completing LEAVING THE LIGHTS ON and the tour that followed.

Ok. Time to get out of the house and enjoy the beautiful weather outside.

Thanks for reading and for your continued support. I could not do this without YOU !!!

peace and persistence

ks

Pogue Reviews Apple's 'Showtime' Event

Although I'm somewhat excited about last Tuesday's announcements from Apple, I'm just not in the mood to report/rant about it. Thankfully, Dave Pogue does another bangup job describing the big picture from the event. Here's, IMMHO, the gist of the presentation:

New York Times | New at Apple: Smaller iPods, Bigger Ideas

Apple's fourth announcement this week addresses that last problem. It's a $300 box, called the iTV for now and scheduled for release early next year. It's designed to connect to your TV (with HDMI or component jacks) and play — without wires — all of the movies, videos, photos and music that sit on your Mac or PC elsewhere in the house.

There are advantages to downloading your movies, like immediacy and convenience. It's nice, too, that your movies play in several places at once (on up to five computers and unlimited iPods), which isn't possible with a DVD. Over all, though, it may take quite awhile for movie downloads — even Apple's — to go mainstream.

Apple's digital music system is another story. You can resent Apple all you want, you can call its admirers fanboys, and you can gripe that songs from iTunes don't work on any pocket player except the iPod.

How Do I Look?

How Do I Look?
How Do I Look?, originally uploaded by ronntaylor

Got a chance to hang with Donald a bit last nite. We attended a benefit screening of "How Do I Look?" A fun-filled, intriguing look at the Ball scene since 1990.

While the event was well attended, I thought it was a bit ... lacking (?). I don't fault anyone because I mos def felt it was from the heart.

Although I won this DVD, it was disheartening to know that I was the only one that bought raffles. One for myself, one for Donald. Guess they should have announced raffles were still available before the screening.

My digicam died while taking some test shots. So I'll have to wait to finish & develop the roll in the Orbit 360F some time next week.
