Digicam Buying Advice

I'm looking for an inexpensive digital camera that works well on the Mac. So far I've checked out the Canon PowerShot A95 and the Konica Minolta Dimage Z20. I want a minimum of 4.0 MP, within the $300 price range and don't really care about the video capabilities. Storage should be decent. Anything else is gravy.

New York Public Library: F*ck iPod Patrons

This is why I have a love-hate relationship with the New York Public Library (and lately there's helluva lot more hate coming from me):

NY library shuts out iPods from digital book service

Hundreds of audio books will be available for digital download at the New York Public Library's website this week, but none of the files will work with an iPod.

New Ipods Early July?

I expect the release of new iTunes software with Podcasting links, 2-Gen iPod Shuffles, and a price drop for existing regular iPods -- the latter should be refreshed/updated sometime later this summer, in time for the back-to-school buying season.

From Apple Insider:

Apple plans special event next month, new iPods likely

Apple Computer is distributing media alerts and invitations to a special event that will take place on or before Thursday, July 7th, but the company is not yet offering details.

Apple news site MacBidouille is one of several French publications that claims to have received a media alert pertaining to the event. It's noted that a similar message was presented to the publication just prior the Oct., 2004 Apple music event that saw the launch of the iPod photo.

According to the web report, Apple is asking the media to prepare for new product announcements on or before the first Thursday in July.

Industry sources believe the event may very likely coincide with the planned high-profile launch of iTunes 4.9 with Podcasting support. Sources had previously stated that the software was due for launch by the first week of July.

Sources tell AppleInsider that the event could also play host to new iPod offerings, which may include second-generation iPod shuffles and possibly fifth-generation iPods.

It has not been stated where the event will take place, but last year Apple utilized San Jose's California Theater to introduce the iPod photo in a similar media event.

iTunes 4.9 Quietly Released

Great! Days after my iPod stops mounting on my desktop (meaning I may have to forego updating it or resetting it!!), Apple releases iTunes 4.9:

"With iTunes 4.9, you can now browse and subscribe to podcasts from within the iTunes Music Store. Podcasts are frequently updated radio-style shows downloadable over the Internet. You can also transfer podcasts to iPod, for listening on the go." (from MacMinute.com)

Snooping around by various Mac news/rumor sites have turned up evidence that this updated version will also support the much-anticipated iTunes cell phone. An announcement on that end is expected by some time next week.

Apple Merges iPod & iPod photo Lines

As expected, Apple Merges iPod & iPod photo Lines

From the official source:

Apple today announced that the iPod and iPod photo lines are merging, creating a single line of white iPods that all feature color displays with the ability to view album artwork, photos and play slideshows in stunning color.

Prices have been dropped and of course, they're playing up the Podcasting feature. I hope there's more to come, because many of us Macheads expected this to happen weeks ago.

Motorola-iTunes Phone Revealed?

From Apple Insider:

Motorola iTunes phone revealed?

The image seen below is believed to be an official mock or prototype image of a Motorola-based Apple compatible phone, and quite possibly the much anticipated iTunes phone expected for release some time in next several days.

It looks a bit... corny. But time will tell.

Percolating

From The Third Decade, find an alternative to going to Starbucks for a coffee and eats. Simply type in your Zip and Delocator.net spits out a list of Starbucks alternatives within a five mile radius. What's even greater is it also lists nearby Starbucks should the alternatives prove unsavory. Of course, my Brooklyn Zip produced almost all Manhattan locations, with most of the Brooklyn joints in Park Slope and similar locales.
