She will be truly missed. She continue to press the public about her son Emmitt Till. A mother who never stop loving or could closed the text on her son. We will forever remember the Till family. God knows and God cares! Posted by: Thomascine Smith on February 3, 2003 02:32 PM
How does a woman survive the loss of a son? I honestly have no idea. I only know this-- Emmitt and his mother were "gifts" to us all and we must never forget them. Children of all races need to know this story. I've shown Emmitt's beaten picture to many young people. Why? Well, the answer would fill a book . Emmitt must not ever be forgotten. Thomascine and Sonja: We should never forget Emmitt or Mamie Till. She made sure his death was not in vain and it is very important that his story is told to as many people as possible. While we have made great strides in terms of race relations, it's vital that we not forget our past inorder to make life better for all. Posted by: ronn on February 12, 2003 03:55 PM

i just learned about the stor of Emmitt Till and i must say that i am truly upset. just to think a little more than 40 years ago to an innocent young boy. I just want to say that it is sad and i am glad that things are not as segregated as much as it was back then (although things like that still happens only they just don't mention it GOD BLESS Posted by: tamara hawkins on February 21, 2003 04:35 PM
I just came home from a screening of "The Murder of Emmett Till" held here at the Apollo during the Imagenation Film & Music Festival. As I sit here now, I thank God for my mother; I know in my heart of hearts that she would have done what Mamie Till did if that was me. And, of course, it's still happening today. That must be horrific pain Mamie Till endured! We as a people have endured so much. That is why we are the strong people we are today. Posted by: Delores on February 26, 2003 06:49 PM

It's a sickening thing that someone can consider themselves of the human race to hold such ignorance and hatred, to do this to another human being, because of the color of their skin. It is a very sad thing that still to this day that one could be so cruel if they thought they could get away with it. The only relief is that someday that persons soul will pay and even so that is no relief. Posted by: Ellen on April 23, 2003 05:30 PM
MS.Till will never be fogoten.I thought it was so stupid for them to do that to emmitt.that is so stupid because of the race. Posted by: Brittany on May 11, 2003 12:10 AM
You know, Emmett would have been in his 40s around the time house music blew up in Chicago. Lately I've been imagining who he would have been if he were allowed to grow up - he was SUCH a cute boy! I could definitely imagine those eyelashes batting at me across Ron Hardy's dance floor ... *sigh* And Mamie Till would have been my mother-in-law!!! *grin!* Posted by: Donald on May 15, 2003 08:04 AM

I'm was, and still am, very diturbed by the actions that took place on that God-awful night. The first time I heard the story of young Emmitt Till I cried and had nightmares that night. I know there is a law about double-jepordy, but in the case of the men that killed Emmitt, I think there should have been an exception. What could posses a man to do that to another, only the God knows. Those men and every single part of there family should never forget this even to thier graves, and be ashamed of themselves. I saw a tape of the trial, thier wives were fanning them and wiping the persperation from thier brows. How could they stand behind a man that would do that to a child. that dirty white trash women and her husband and brother-in-law and realitives should be ashamed, I only wish they could read this and if they do I don't mind them repling. My God never have mercy on there souls!!! Posted by: Megan Whitehead on May 20, 2003 09:21 PM
Tha first time I heard about Emmitt Till, I was reading the book Free At Last. Just thinkin' about that makes me sick to my stomach. Through Mamie Till's encouragement, I have learned that even when times get hard, I should keep goin'. I don't know how it feels to lose a child, i do know how it feels to lose a loved one, and it hurts real hard. It hurts soo bad that at times it as so hard to let go and let God, but i know I gotta do it. Now that Mamie Till is reunited with her son, I know that she's very happy. However those men who did this, won't be very happy. Posted by: Erica Anderson on May 21, 2003 11:29 AM

Greetings. This is a poem I wrote in honor of Mamie Till-Mobley. It is also posted on my website at www.wiseoneproductions.com, and also featured in my book, Politics & Love. May she finally rest in peace and be with her son, Emmett, again. Mama Till (In memory of Mamie Till-Mobley, who passed on January 6, 2003) Mama Till beared the weight Mama Till beared the weight for forty-seven years Forty-seven years of being a civil rights icon Forty-seven years of being a civil rights icon because of the death of her son, Emmitt Mama Till beared the weight of wishing she had never been made a civil rights icon And perhaps, too, wishing she had never been made a black mother who had given birth to a black boy in white America Regretting she had sent her boy into harms way Into a city called Money, a state named Mississippi, In a nation calling herself the leader of the free world But she was not free Mama Till was a black mother in fear Mama Till beared the weight of passed down fear Fear passed down from Jim Crow era mothers Fear passed down from American apartheid era mothers Fear passed down from lynching era mothers Fear passed down from Great Migration era mothers Fear passed down from post-Reconstruction era mothers Fear passed down from false freedom era mothers Fear passed down from chattel slavery era mothers Fear passed down from Denmark Vessey, Gabriel Prosser, Nat Turner era mothers Fear passed down from Middle Passage era mothers Fear passed down from African mothers whose cross-generational maternal instinct understood on the first day what the coming of the strangers would mean Mama Till beared the weight of all black mothers who fear what will become of their children in America Mama Till beared it all, but she tried to overcome Mama Till tried to overcome by sending her only son By sending her only child to the wild, wild, south of 1955 America And she paid the price She paid the price by bearing the weight Bearing the weight of forty-seven years Forty-seven years of being a civil rights icon Forty-seven years of being a civil rights icon because of the death of her son, Emmitt Mama Till beared the weight of wishing she had never been made a civil rights icon But now, Mama Till has laid her burden down And in her passing, passes it on to those of us who remain …may we be so strong ©WISEONE (Art Wallace, Jr.), 2003 Posted by: Art Wallace on June 21, 2003 11:24 AM
Mamie Till was truley a strong Black Woman. I feel that she handled the death of her young son in a remarkable way. Mamie Till gave her soon an open casket funeral for everyone to see what they did to her son, which should of made a impression in the minds of other killers "MUDDER IS WRONG." Mamie Till didn't lay down and except that they murdered her son she became a civil rights activist. Now that Mamie has passed she will be truley missed but not forgotten. The only bright side to this tragedy is that she will get to see her son again. as we approach the one year mark of Mamie Tills passing she is still remembered. I am a college student who got the assignment of an unsolved murder mystery. When I got the facts on how Miss Tills Mobely son died I was appalled. As an African American My blood cry's out for my ancestors. What is schocking is they actually called this a mystery! We all know they got away with murder. To God goes the glory fore Emmitt did not die in vain. His death sparked a nation. His mother was great in that fire that started when they killed her son. Not only did she fan the flames she would not let the fire die. God truly has blessed the Till family and I know that reuion in heaven was a blessed event. being born and raised 50 miles from where this horrible murder took place has always has an impact on me,. my grandparents first told me about emmitt till when i was a teenager now 27 I still do research to try and understand how something so horrific could happen to a child.. I was so mad about what they did to him. I just learned about it in Social Studies and saw the Discusting state of condition he was in. I hope that that case showed a lot of people about how horrible segragation was back then. Posted by: Amy on October 28, 2003 06:17 PM
I honestly think that Emmitt Till should've survived so that the people who did what they did to him would die a crucial death, and feel it from the beggining of their lives to their very last breath. Posted by: Shavauyeah Anglin on November 4, 2003 02:15 PM
I'm from The netherlands and last night I watched a documentary about Emmet Till's death, I was truly shocked and horrified and extremely angry at those two filthy animals who killed this innocent harmless child. I have loads of respect for his mother and I share her loss. I also have immense respect for the way she fought for justice for the rest of her life, she inspires me, it's just sad that a trigger like this one had to be in the shape of a murdered child, God be with them... I think the story of Emmitt Till has really made an impact on a lot of people. I know the first time I read the story I was horrified. When I finished reading everything about him I told all my friends and family and they really listened. Everyone I showed the picture of Emmitt's body to were so frightened. That picture will be etched in my head until the day I die. I don't know how anyone could even do that to someone, let alone getting away with the murder. Emmitt's murder is one thing I'll always remember and never forget. May God be with him. Posted by: MaNdY on January 22, 2004 09:06 AM
I watched the documentary on A and E the other day, and since then I have been in tears. It is very frustrating becuase my initial reaction was that we should go lynch a white boy, but I know that would not solve the problem. And what is more disturbing, is the fact that they slapped Mrs. Till in the face by finding the murders not guilty. But as a black race we are strong, and we must remember to beat them with our minds and not our fists. To Mammie and Emmitt, your story will never be forgotten. I love you both. i know a lot of people are offended because of the fact, they themselves are black and i personally think it is wrong myself, but you must learn that because the action of this wreched young person does, this does not mean that everyone must be that way,i even know not being white but not black either is wrong, there is racisim of all those,it is not only white against black, and black against white,it is also white against different cultures and everything else i will bet that people around the world that have never been to america are thinking that America and its people are horrible but that does not give everyone permission to hate one another Posted by: kitty gribler on January 28, 2004 09:34 PM

I was a child when Emmitt was killed by the Jim Crow racists of the South. I can remember the fear in my mother's eyes whenever my brother would leave the house to go and be with his friends. The Blacks at that time was truly afraid for their children in the Southern states. Now, I am 55 years old, and whenever this time of year comes around, I think of Emmitt. Emmitt, who never got a chance to grow up to be a man; Emmitt, who unknowingly helped to spur the quest for the civil rights movement on, and helped to make up the minds of many Americans, black, white, Hispanic, etc. that the Jim Crow laws of the South were not right, and it would take a united effort to rid the country of them. Thank You, Emmitt, and thank you Mamie for the ultimate sacrifice. Posted by: Vivian Cox on February 6, 2004 03:34 PM
As i sit and wonder why someone would do that to such a young child i have to remember that God is in control and he never makes mistakes. I am just 18 years old and before five years ago i had no idea of what had happened to Emmitt Till. As a christian i know that God doesn't let his children suffer so i have to remember that yes he may have been badly beaten and bruised, but before those men ever hit him he had been caught up with the Holy Ghost to never feel pain again. It is very important that this is never forgotten in America. Mamie Till wanted her sons legacy to go on for generations to come. I pray to God that he have mercy on the souls of those men because they know not what they have done. Thank You lord and thank you Mammie Till may you and your sons memory live in our hearts forever. I can never forget reading about the tradgic day that happen. When an unjust was done to a young black man. Years have passed and yet it stills filled like today. I know that he watches over the still troubled land we live in and wonder, after all this time why, why are we now hurting our own, in the same way as he was? Relationships are going astray with our own black person. And for what? Jealously, and no Self-Respect for ourselves or loved-ones. God be with you, Emmet Tills! When I first heard about the Emmit Till story, I was hurt and shocked that something like that could happen and the state call it a mystery. How can you do something like that to a little boy, who didn't even know anybetter? And for his mother to have bare all that heartache and pain, knowing that her sons killers won't be charged is sad and a horrible thing to know. emmit til was just a baby. those ignorant bastards sons should pay for their fathers crime. i know it sounds bitter. or better yet their daughters. my grandmothers little sister was also murdered by the hands of a racist pig. they burned that poor baby alive in one of those old coal stoves. back in the teen 1900s. so i have every right to be angry as well. might grandmother and the rest of her siblings were very light . her little sister on the other hand wasn't. they busted their doors down and took her into the night. claiming that she was an alien nigger. she couldn't of been related to them well us. and this also took place in canton, mississippi. rest in peace to all the victim's life taken by the white devils. Posted by: jaquanda on March 2, 2004 09:39 PM
all my black people and people in general. don't forget this racist war is still in process. they want us all dead even the good people(white wise good people). just because they(we) know they are wrong. my belief is that JESUS is a black man. that's why we are the most hated race. the devil is white with blond hair and blue eyes and that's why lucifer was one of GOD'S beautiful angels . don't you get it. he hated JESUS so much that he cursed all people with dark skin and hair of wool. out of every race we (AFRICANS) have hair of wool. you might even see some of them (white people) with nappy hair. but that is rare. It was with a saddened spirit that I learned of Emmett Till's story and I hope in the end his mother found solace. Human nature is strange and twisted, but we are all the Lord's children. I hope in the aftermath of Emmett Till someone has learned to be a citizen of fairness, an advocate for peace, and the keeper of his brother. Posted by: Chikita Jackson on March 5, 2004 06:48 PM
Growing up in Chicago I always knew the story of Emmett Till. But I'm saddened to realize that a lot of my friends say that they have never heard of him. This is a very powerful and important part of our history that needs to be told and retold again and again. Although it is a painful story to hear it just goes to show how much our people went through so that we can be the strong Black people that we are today. I challenge you to print Emmitt's story and teach it to your children and any friends or family who doesn't know him. Let's show his loving mother that all of work to keep his memory alive was not done in vain. Posted by: cynthia starks on March 5, 2004 11:48 PM

After hearing the story of Emmitt Till, I must say that i was very upset not only about what happened but also to think that someone would Kill anyone, let alone a young child for such stupid reasons. Why kill someone just because they have a different skin color or because they talked to you're wife? It's not the outside of a person that makes them, it's the inside, the heart! Take the men that murdered Emmitt for example, do you think they got to know Emmitt before they brutally beat him to death. No! They saw that he was a black child trying talk to a white female and killed him. And the main reason they killed him was because....He was Black. And i just wanted to let it be known to all that are the slightest bit racest, You're whong! Not only because you judge people because of their skin color but because you would choose not to like someone because of how they look. Would you judge someone of you own race just because they have different color hair than you? I DON'T THINK SO. So why judge someone by their color? the race of a person doesn't have a thing to do with their heart. R.I.P Emmitt Posted by: jessica on April 1, 2004 11:43 AM
My father lived in Chicago for years and his father lived there for what seemed for his entire life. When I first saw the movie of Emmett Till I just couldn't know enough and that was 3 years ago. My children now know the story, and my daughter goes to Hampton University I encouraged her to research the story. This is more powerful than a serial killer because we know that there are unknown sick people in the world. But, the ones we break bread with each day is truly astounding. HOW COULD SOMEONE ONE DO THAT TO ANOTHER HUMAN BEING.HE WAS SO YOUNG AND A NICE LOOKING LITTLE BOY. WHO EVER DID THAT TO HIM WILL OR IS BURNING IN HELL.THAT BOT WAS BEYOND RECONITION. I DON'T BLAME HIS MOM ONE BIT FOR HAVING A OPEN CASKET FURNERAL.THAT WILL STICK IN MY HEART AS LONG AS I MAY LIVE AND MAY THE BOTH OF THEM BE TRULY MISSED. I KNOW SHE IS HAPPY TO BE WITH HER SON KNOW IN THE HEAVENLY SKIES. Posted by: ROSALYN CRAWLEY on April 15, 2004 01:33 PM
We as a people must tell Emmett's story every chance we get. Educate others who are unaware of this heinous crime. Emmett and his mother Mamie are the reason why we can't give up. Hatred is not the answer. The struggle is not over, and Emmett was just one of many who died because of their color. Just remember, his mother went to her grave fighting for justice, and we can do the same! Posted by: Amy on April 16, 2004 05:11 PM
It is very sad to know that the events of the past still haunt us today, and to think that these things still happen! When I was growing up , I was taught that everyone is equal. One of my very dear friends throughout elementary and Jr. High was African American, and one of the sweetest, loving girls that I knew. God created us all! That makes us all brothers and sisters! I think it's about time that was acknowledged, and we act in accordence!!! God Bless! Posted by: Kathy Miller on April 26, 2004 08:17 AM
I am from St. Croix in the U. s. virgin Islands. I was 16 years old when the murder of Emmett took place, and I have never forgotten the incident. I always wondered how any human being, regardless of color, could treat another human being like. Mamie Till is still one oof my heroes. Posted by: Ann V. Parris on April 29, 2004 03:31 PM
I think that it was bad enough for young black men to be lynched and hung back during the slavery days but for a young black male to be killed and muitilated is very tragic and dissapointing. But it is still hard on young black children because they are born into this world without much and really don't have a father-figure to look up to. We as black men must be there for our sons, daughters, cousins, nieces, and nephews because if we are not there for them then crime, drugs, hatred, and the system will be there for them and will teach them nothing except to be a failure and another statistic in society Posted by: Billy Battle on May 4, 2004 08:57 PM
I have never seen something so horrible. How could any body have the heart to beat somebody to were they can not be recognized. It really hurts my heart to know that there are people that cruel in the world. It makes my so mad. It is still around today. When I saw the pictures I dang near wanted to cry. In my school we watched a movie about civil rights in this movie there was a clip about Emmet Till and the pain that his mother went through. I am only 17 years old and this story touched me like I was there to witness what had happened to Emmet.Mamie Till was a strong woman because if I was her I dont even think that I could have identified my child. I just want to say to Mamie Till even though she's not here that I am truly, truly sorry for what happened to her son. Posted by: Gracie Bey on June 17, 2004 03:54 PM
This something that will down history. The courage the strenght of one women,to not let her beloved child very short lived life be forgotten. My heart aches for her,I hoped that the the people who did this horrible crime would have being punished before the untimely death of Mrs.Till, but I know that the people who did this crime is paying the price now,the two white man and lady, because as a black women we believe in greater powers. As a child of GOD we walk by faith not sight. I think that was very stupid of the people who killed him. If you ask for my opinion, I think they should burn in hell. God forgive me for saying that but everybody should feel that way. How can you hate someone just because the color of their skin? If anybody can answer that tell me something cause to me thats not a reason at all. Posted by: kia on September 19, 2004 06:56 PM
